Five Father’s Day Activities for Your Senior

Father’s Day is right around the corner, making it the perfect time to show your elderly dad or grandfather just how much they mean to you. Whether they live independently, with family, or benefit from senior home care services, this special day is an opportunity to celebrate their unique role in your life.

If you’re providing care for your elderly dad or grandpa, you already do so much every day to support their health and happiness during their golden years. Father’s Day, however, is the perfect chance to go above and beyond with a thoughtful gesture or special activity to make them feel truly appreciated.

Five Fun Father’s Day Activities

#1: Enjoy a game.

What is your dad’s favorite sport to watch? If it’s in season, why not head out to enjoy a game together? If there are no pro sports teams near where your father lives, look into summer leagues to go watch, or a local college or high school. Finally, there’s nothing wrong with sitting next to each other on the couch with some cold drinks and salty snacks and watching his favorite team play on TV.

#2: Go fishing.

If your dad has always loved fishing or even if he’s never done it, Father’s Day can be a great day to head out to the nearest lake or river and try to catch a fish or two. You can go all out and rent a boat to head into the lake and fish, or you can simply find a nice sitting spot on the shore and cast off.

#3: Go out for a meal.

If your dad has a favorite restaurant, Father’s Day is the perfect time to bring him there for a nice meal or appetizer. Even if his favorite meal doesn’t appeal to you, make this day about him and help him enjoy his favorite meal, whatever that may be.

#4: Plan a family barbecue.

What dad doesn’t love firing up the grill? Invite the family over to spend time together and enjoy some delicious BBQ.

#5: Join him in his favorite activity.

It could be birdwatching, visiting an antique shop, strolling through a garden, or playing pickleball. Spend the day celebrating what makes him uniquely him by doing what he loves together.

Senior Home Care: The Perfect Father’s Day Gift

If you provide care and support for your father from a distance, and you’ve noticed he’s been needing a bit more help lately around the home, one of the best gifts you could give him is a little help. While friends and family can sometimes step in and help him around the home, a more reliable and professional team might be exactly what he needs.

A senior home care team can work directly with your father to determine what areas he needs the most help with (since we all know many dads don’t like to ask for help, they’ll need your input too).

If meal time is a struggle or you see that your dad is living solely off of take-out and frozen meals, a senior home care team can help him by shopping with him and preparing healthy meals to get him through the week. If keeping up with household cleaning is a struggle, his senior home care provider can help him manage his home so it remains in good shape and is always ready for any company to stop by and visit him.

A senior home care team can be the Father’s Day gift that keeps giving all year long.
