A+ Personal Home Care is driven to consistently achieve the highest standards of excellence with every client and in every interaction. Our caregivers serve you with passion and empathy. Our caregivers can provide services in assisted living and nursing homes. Our caregivers are happy to see you. Our caregivers consider and understand what your life experience is like and how you might be feeling. This compassion is integral to providing the best service. We are all human — and our caregivers bring equal parts skill and humanity to their roles.
We take action to assist our clients. Our role is not about sitting back. Our work is about: Stepping Up, Doing, Helping, Supporting, and Being Steadfast. You can count on us for reliable, professional action in supporting healthier, more comfortable, more independent lives for our clients. Life is a journey. We are all at different stages. But one thing we can all have in common is respect for one another. We believe that respect is the foundation for a strong relationship and a positive outcome. Our caregivers serve you with respect.
Caring for a parent or spouse is a labor of love, and it can also leave you running on empty. Respite care in Baltimore gives you the chance to rest and catch your breath for a while.
A+ Personal Home Care sends a caregiver to your loved one's own home, so you can sleep, run errands, see a friend or simply step away for a few hours. Your loved one keeps their routine, their favorite chair and their own kitchen, and you get some time back for yourself.
We are a family-owned home care agency based in Pikesville, and we serve families all across Baltimore City and Baltimore County. As a family business, we treat your family as our own, and we know how much it means to hand over care to someone you can trust.
Respite care is home care that gives you, the family caregiver, a much-needed break. A caregiver from A+ looks after your loved one while you take the time you need to take care of yourself. It's one of the ways our home care helps seniors stay safe and comfortable in their own homes for as long as possible.
In-home respite care happens right where your loved one already lives. They sleep in their own bed, eat at their own table and keep the faces and habits they know. Nobody has to pack a bag or get used to a new room.
Nearly 38,000 Baltimore City households have someone 65 or older living with at least one other person. If yours is one of those homes, you already know how full the days get, from the morning medicines to the last check on your loved one before bed.
Respite can be used once, for a single afternoon or a trip you've had on the calendar for months. It can also run on a regular schedule, like every Tuesday or every other weekend, so the break is something you can count on.
Respite works best when it fits your life, so we build the schedule around you and your loved one. Our hourly home care can cover a few hours a day or a few days a week. Home care with A+ can range from a few hours a week to round-the-clock care, and it can include overnight supervision and live-in 24/7 care.
Families who need someone there day and night can lean on our around-the-clock home care, where we coordinate a team of experienced, reliable caregivers to care for your loved one 24 hours a day, seven days a week. We provide 24-hour service, including all holidays and weekends. With live-in care, your loved one also gets to build a strong bond with a caregiver they see week after week.
Short-term respite care fits the times you need to be somewhere else for a little while. It can cover a work shift, or free you up for a doctor's appointment of your own. It can give you a weekend away, a family wedding out of town or a full week of vacation. And sometimes it simply gives you one night of real sleep, the kind that's hard to get when you're listening for footsteps in the hall.
More than 38,000 people 65 and older in Baltimore City live on their own. Your mom or dad may be one of them, and you may be the one who drives over every evening after work. A caregiver can take a few of those visits off your plate, so you can rest knowing someone is with them.
A respite visit is a regular day for your loved one, with a caregiver helping wherever they need it. Our caregivers bring the same companionship and help around the house and the same hands-on help with bathing, dressing and grooming that families across Baltimore count on every day. Depending on what your loved one needs, a caregiver can help with:
You can tell us how your loved one likes their day to go, and we customize the visit to fit it. Lunch can still be at noon, the afternoon can still be for the crossword, and the evening phone call with the grandkids can still happen right on time.
Our caregivers also keep your loved one company in the quiet moments, with a friendly smile, a helping hand or a listening ear. That kind of company can help ease loneliness for someone who spends a lot of the day at home.
Caring for someone with Alzheimer's, another form of dementia or a serious illness can take everything you have, day and night. Dementia respite care gives you time to rest while your loved one stays with a caregiver who understands what they need. During a respite visit, our caregivers follow the same approach we use in our Alzheimer's, dementia, palliative and hospice support.
Our caregivers practice person-centered care and communication, which means getting to know your loved one and what they like. They offer gentle sensory comfort, like a hand massage, and they play music your loved one enjoys. They keep routines comfortable and steady, and they watch body language closely, so they can help reduce stress before it builds.
They also encourage mental activity through conversation and games. A caregiver can help your loved one keep appointments, plan things and remember words and names.
You need rest to keep bringing your best to your loved one, so respite for family caregivers is part of this care. We also want to be there for you, with a positive attitude and the emotional support that helps you keep moving forward during a hard season.

Letting someone new into your loved one's home is a big step, and we take that trust to heart. Our team of thoroughly trained, screened and credentialed home care professionals includes CNAs and CMTs, and they truly love what they do.
Every caregiver's training covers nutrition, safety, first aid, communication and infection control. They also receive psychological training, so they can give your loved one compassionate, patient care.
Home care agencies in Maryland are licensed and overseen by the state's Office of Health Care Quality, which publishes directories of licensed agencies. A+ is bonded, licensed and insured, and we hold ourselves to rigorous operating standards.
We also take the time to learn your loved one's preferences and share them with our caregivers. That way we can match your loved one with the caregivers best suited to their needs, and the person who walks through the door feels like a good fit from the start.
Our caregivers come from many backgrounds, and our team speaks English, Russian, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, Arabic, Farsi, Uzbek, Turkish, Spanish and Portuguese. Some of our caregivers are also experienced with Kosher guidelines. For a parent who feels most at home in their first language, or who keeps a Kosher kitchen, those details can make a respite visit feel familiar from the very first hour. You can read more about our family-owned team and the values we work by.
A+ accepts private pay, Medicaid and long-term care insurance. Our team will help you review your available options, so you get the services you need at a price you can afford.
Respite care programs in Baltimore can also help with the cost. Baltimore City's Family Caregivers Program offers a grant that families can use to hire providers for respite services. Right now it's limited to $300 to $600 per person each year, depending on available funds. To qualify, you need to be 18 or older and caring for someone 60 or older who lives in Baltimore City and needs help with at least two everyday activities, with a medical verification form. Requests can take up to 90 days to process, so it helps to apply well before you need the break.
Baltimore County's Department of Aging offers a yearly caregiver stipend that can pay for someone to stay at the home while you're away. The amount changes each year, and there may be a waitlist when funds are limited. You can apply once a year for up to five years, with one stipend per household for one person receiving care. People receiving hospice care, or whose care is paid by another source such as Medicaid, aren't eligible.
Maryland's Respite Care Program provides short-term care at planned times, during a crisis or on an as-needed basis. It serves children and adults with developmental disabilities, adults with functional disabilities, and their families. You can reach it through your local Department of Social Services or a nonprofit agency funded by the state.
The city program also offers counseling and caregiver education, and the county program offers free one-hour caregiver consultations and support groups.
